Conclusions
- New footprint size will be 3+ times larger than the existing building.
- New Main Meeting Hall seating capacity will be 2 times larger than the existing building; this does not include the existing meeting hall (seating capacity 300-325) and any other additional rooms/areas used for ancillary Center activities.
- Traffic surges will increase by more than 3 times the existing patterns. Daily traffic surges will increase with the proposed additional Center activities.
- If the Special Use Permit is granted as presented by the County, the present or future owners will have a "green light" to expand well beyond the current proposal, until the entire 9.5 acres are consumed by their "campus". The new Statement of Intent does NOT limit the expansion to ONE building -- it only limits EACH building to a max size, as stated.
Nov. 2, 2011 - AMI Community Meeting Report
The county required community meeting with Activation Ministry International (AMI) on November 2nd was attended by almost 300 LOM residents. Even after AMI said they would reduce their original proposal from 46,000 to 30,000 square feet and reduce seating from 900 to 660, there appeared to be resounding opposition.
Residents asked thought provoking and hard hitting questions about the expansion and voiced heartfelt concerns regarding traffic congestion, reduced property values, decreased county revenues, noise pollution, fire and police protection, adequate water resources, lack of studies for infrastructure (water, septic, roads), as well as damage to the historic and pristine nature of the community, including the loss of designation of our scenic byway. The county planner stated that this is a Special Use Permit application, and therefore the Central Mountain Community Plan is not relevant.
No residents who spoke expressed opposition for AMI at its current size, but all were heavily opposed to physical expansion of the facility. Although AMI listed many ways that they serve the community, they said that only 4-6% percent of their congregation reside on LOM. After almost 2 hours of public questions not one person in the audience spoke in support of the expansion request.
Our Legal Counsel is studying AMI's new Statement of Intent and Special Use. The revision AMI presented at the meeting has not been submitted to the county. AMI is required to submit any revision to the county by November 24th. Residents will be kept advised by CARE and their HOAs of further developments in our unified opposition to AMI's request.
Thank you to all 275 residents who have written letters in opposition to the AMI expansion. We would ask you to hold off on writing additional letters until AMI's revised application has been submitted, and our legal counsel has had an opportunity to review it.

NOTICE ?
The misleading wording on this sign failed to alert the community to the gravity of the situation. To this day, there are residents of Lookout Mountain who fail to grasp the real situation—that, embedded in these innocent words "allow for the existing church", was a request for a 500% increase in the size of the facility.
LETTERS NEEDED
Write letters to your local congressmen, the governor, local newspapers addressing the issues, and how we are appealing the county commissioners decision that will ruin Lookout Mountain not only for us, but for generations to come.
