Dear County Planner, Josh Drexler,
We are writing this letter in opposition to the Activation Ministry Church’s plan to expand their facility located at 166 South Lookout Mountain Road to 46,000 sq. ft. event center.
Moving to the Lookout Mountain community in August of 2009 was a dream come true for us. We love the views, easy access to I-70, the fact we are on a Scenic Byway, and the fact that we can enjoy riding our bikes andrunning on Lookout Mountain Road with our new baby. Furthermore, we chose this community because the Zoning Laws limit any further construction which would degrade the serenity of this residential neighborhood. As a matter a fact, we work hard each year on our own 9+ acre property to plant trees and bushes to make sure the Scenic Byway we live on remains scenic.
We read the proposed expansion for the Activation Ministry Church and we are in opposition of this request by the church. The Zoning Laws are in place to help manage the land, keep property values high, and provide tax revenue for our government operations. Considering all the short-comings in our local state and government budgets, and as voters in this community, we have to tell you that modifying our Zoning Laws for a church expansion which will require the district to carry a higher cost, is completely uncalled for.
Expanding a church on the Lariat Loop Scenic Byway is the wrong choice for this neighborhood. It will take away from the serenity of the area and increase commercial traffic for the residents. No matter how you design a 46,000 square foot event center/church, it will still look like an out of place, big building, in the middle of a mountain rural neighborhood, and it will hurt our property values and require additional cost burden on the district and tax payers alike.
Considering this matter will be settled by recommendations from the Planning Commission and voted on by the County Commissioners, as sound voters for this district we need you to know that the Michael and Kelly McCready oppose the expansion request of the Activation Ministry Church on Lookout Mountain.
Sincerely, Michael & Kelly McCready
