Talking Points


Impacts of the proposed use on property in the surrounding area, including but not limited to (based on County P&Z Administrative Provisions):
  • traffic impacts, volumes of trips, safety and access;
  • fire hazards;
  • visual and aesthetic impact, including bulk, scale of buildings as they relate to the surrounding uses;
  • noise;
  • drainage and erosion;
  • community character (compatibility with the surrounding community);
  • adequate water quality and quantity and sewage disposal availability;
  • availability of public facilities (fire, emergency rescue) to serve the proposed use;
  • the availability of methods of mitigating the negative impacts of the proposed use upon the surrounding area, including but not limited to the construction of necessary public facilities;
  • the compatibility of the proposed use with existing and allowable land uses in the surrounding area;
  • the effect upon health, safety and welfare of the residents in the surrounding area.
Additional Talking Points:
  • conformance to the Central Mountain Community Plan and the Lariat Loop Scenic & Historic Byway Corridor Management Plan
  • impact on mountain & recreational cyclists
  • compromise to local residents' safety & security
  • strain on roads & intersection infrastructure
  • noise & light pollution (already an issue at the current facility)
  • reduced property investment caused by all the aforementioned points

  LETTERS NEEDED

Write letters to your local congressmen, the governor, local newspapers addressing the issues, and how we are appealing the county commissioners decision that will ruin Lookout Mountain not only for us, but for generations to come.

Why "Save The Loop"?

We are NOT opposed to the current facility; however, we ARE opposed to the huge expansion and effective change of zoning that could alter the ambiance and history of our mountain community forever.

The misleading wording on this sign failed to alert the community to the gravity of the situation. To this day, there are residents of Lookout Mountain who fail to grasp the real situation—that, embedded in these innocent words "allow for the existing church", was a request for a 500% increase in the size of the facility.
